Why Do Cats Purr?

Cats communication using purring. A kitten and its mother will purr as a sign of comfort and, after this, the kitten will continue the behavior through its life. Cats usually purr when something pleases them or when they feel safe and comfortable. It is known also that an anxious cat or one at death’s door might purr too, obviously for different reasons.

Purring is interesting because no one is really sure how the cat’s body produces the sound. It might be because of blood moving through the blood vessels. It might be because of soft palate vibrations.

Cat purring has been tested electromyographically, to show the electrical activity in the muscles of the cat. This could indicate that purring is caused when the muscles of the larynx, containing the vocal chords, are activated. the larynx partially closing, or glottis, could be responsible for the purring sounds.

Even though at times they may demand the coziest place by the fireplace, they will always be there when you are feeling low.

Cats Having Fun

Cats are docile yet playful. Their high levels of energy often make them perform antics that leaves us in splits. You may find them romping around in the garden in vain trying to catch a butterfly or struggling relentlessly to free themselves from rolls of yarn they have entangled themselves into. Whatever the situation, cats are amusing and we all love them a lot!

•A group of cats is called a clowder whereas a group of kittens is called a kindle.

•Cats love heights. However, a female cat called Mincho in Argentina took this love to the extreme when she climbed up a tree and refused to come down as long as she lived. She spent six years on the tree and produced three litters! Think of the tree loving male cats who fathered her kittens.

•When a cat wags its tail, its bogged with internal conflict. For example, may be it's playtime and your cat wants to go out side but it can't because its raining. You can't imagine your cat's dilemma as it feels torn between the desire to romp in the garden outside and its aversion to getting its coat messy.

Mysteries About Cats

Cats On The Bathroom Window Sill

Cats On Top Of Commode

Let us take a walk back in history, and unravel the mysteries that have surrounded cats. These animals have gone through every emotion displayed by human beings; they have been loved, hated, worshipped and persecuted. Despite, all this, the cat is still a human beings best friend.

The African Wildcat was the first to be domesticated some 5000 years ago.

This was done because the people of Egypt consumed large amounts of grain, which was being eaten up by rats. Since cats were the only solution to the problem, every person in Egypt began leaving food out for the cats. At this time, the Pharaohs felt the need to have more cats to protect his own granaries.

As asking everyone to give up their cats might cause a revolt, he declared cats as "demigods," so that people would care for them and they would remain his personal property too. The cat gained in status and strange rules came into existence.

One rule stated that if anyone killed a cat, he would be killed too. The other said that if a cat died a natural death, the family had to have their statement confirmed by the priest. People began beating their chest and shaving their eyebrows to display their sadness on the death of a cat.
